ContinuousGeneral Summary Under the supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Economic Crimes Unit Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.
Responsible for the financial accounting activities of the Economic Crimes Unit, such as processing accounting reports, assessing fines and fees, managing participant diversion assessments and reconciliation of accounts.
Other functions include preparing and processing legal documents, preparing and issuing subpoenas and opening and maintaining case files.
Responsible for performing clerical functions related to Economic Crimes.
Employees hired after or employed as of February 1, 2023, are eligible to receive a retention stipend of $2,500 if they remain employed as of July 31, 2023.
Employees who remain employed through January 31, 2024, will receive an additional $2,500.
Applications are accepted until there are sufficient numbers of qualified applications or qualified candidate has been identified.

Essential Functions Opens ECU files, includes scheduling retail fraud meetings for approved participants, establishing accounts in the computer system, generating forms and receipts.
Enters data on court cases to computer and generates warrants, diversion letters and other legal documents.
Ensures files are in order and complete for court proceedings.
Processes transmittal of funds to County Treasurer, issues checks and reports to County Treasurer.
Prepares vouchers for transfer of funds to merchants and the State of Michigan, Secretary of State and DHHS.
Daily managing of monetary transactions and responsible for handling large sums of money.
Responsible for maintaining the security of funds until transferred to the County Treasurer.
Adheres to strict internal controls related to financial functions.
Coordinates with Technology Services and the Controller's Office to ensure accounting databases are updated, functioning effectively and recorded in the County General Ledger accordingly.
Daily and monthly reconciliations of accounts and preparation of reports.
Responds to inquiries relating to funds received by the Economic Crimes Unit and researches and resolves account problems.
Assists in coordinating the calendar of participant payment dates and follows up on missed payments.
Assists in coordinating the calendar for participant retail fraud meetings with a counseling agency and confirms participant has attended and completed classes.
Assists in training and monitoring several interns.
Monitors and responds to informational requests, correspondence, discusses and clarifies legal and procedural inquiries from clients.
Coordinates the collection and maintenance of office statistical records and assists in preparation of monthly and annual reports.
Provides financial information to the Controller's Office and assists in the annual reconciliation of holding accounts for the County's Annual Audit.
Prepares and types various motions, orders, warrants, subpoenas, court petitions, and other legal forms and documents and prepares proofs of service as appropriate.
Types briefs, answers and correspondence for the prosecuting attorneys.
Proofread documents for spelling, punctuation, grammar and format.
Operates LEIN system to obtain driving records and criminal histories.
Obtains certified driving records, certificate of convictions, and orders of suspension from courts or agencies as appropriate.
Other Functions 15.
May provide assistance to the Prosecutor's Office as a Legal Assistant as necessary.
Minimum
Qualifications Education:
Equivalent to an Associate degree or two to three years of coursework in accounting/bookkeeping and legal studies.
Experience:
Three to five years of experience in a financial setting or legal background with financial responsibilities.
Previous administrative or supervisory experience is helpful, but not required.
Other Requirements:
Must be knowledgeable and accurate in accounting and legal procedures.
Requires strong communication skills.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
